Visit to the exhibition William Morris & Art from the Islamic World at the William Morris Gallery with
Rowan Bain, Principal Curator, William Morris Gallery
An Ottoman quilt, Iznik tiles, Turkish and Iranian textiles, carpets and metalwork are among the stunning objects in this gorgeous exhibition at William Morris’ childhood home in Walthamstow. The exhibiton sets out to explore Morris’s fascination with the arts from the Islamic world and their impact on his designs, in particular textiles and wallpapers, and their influence on the Arts and Crafts Movement. Morris was an avid collector and his daughter May remembered that the dining room at Kelmscott House in Hammersmith had “more than a touch of the Thousand and One Nights.”
